Interactive heritage project for schools created for The City of Edinburgh Council.www.eskimoonline.com/whosetown
To package largely unseen heritage content from The City of Edinburgh Council's collections for use on Glow, the Schools Intranet. To create a resource which appeals to children but also contains resources for teachers to be used in classroom lessons or by pupils individually.
An interactive resource which lets you explore boxes in the attic. Attic rooms are split into four eras and each box contains photographs, documents, old newspapers, maps and occasionally videos or audio of real life Edinburgh people.
Admired by teachers and pupils, it was deemed so successful that the concept is to be rolled out to a wider audience. Whose Town? won an award for Best Visual Design and the Chairman's Award for Design at the Scottish Design Awards.
Whose Town? has been a great addition to our loan and reminiscence boxes. It complements our collections of objects and handling material really well and provides additional background information for teachers and group leaders. It also fills a need which was identified by our evaluation of providing digital resources and sound and audio-visual material to bring our collections to life. It has enabled us to find new ways to engage groups with our museum collections.
